The West Bengal Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee, took to Twitter on Thursday to clear the air over the undergraduate admissions process. Issuing guidelines to all government and semi-government colleges and universities in the state, the Department of Higher Education has said that they cannot charge any admission fee from the applicants for undergraduate courses during online admissions.
Mr. Chatterjee said, “Several colleges are collecting money from applicants through application fees and prospectus fees.” He added that no fees can be taken in such an unethical manner.
The state government is taking such a decision keeping in mind the perilous times of the people in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the education minister stated.
The admission process in the undergraduate courses in Kolkata colleges started a week after the release of the Higher Secondary examination results.
