Introduction of optical fiber link in Andaman by sea

This time the facility of high speed broadband connection reached Andaman and Nicobar too. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) project that runs under the sea for the island.  As a result, residents of Andaman and Nicobar will get high speed internet service just like the mainland of India.

The project covers 2,312 km of optical fiber cable from Chennai to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Modi on December 30, 2016. He started the project through video conferencing on Monday. The Prime Minister said it was a gift for the people of Andaman and Nicobar on the eve of Independence Day. From Chennai to Port Blair, from Port Blair to Little Andaman and from Port Blair to Swaraj Island: The service has been launched in large parts of Andaman-Nicobar from today. According to government sources, the cost of the project has been Tk 1,224 crore. In addition to Port Blair, it will offer high speed internet to Swaraj Island (Havelock), Long Island, Rangat, Little Andaman, Kamorta, Car Nicobar and Greater Nicobar. After inaugurating the project, the Prime Minister said it was the responsibility of the entire country to provide modern telecom connectivity to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This project to connect the people of the island with the country and the whole world is a symbol of our responsibility.
According to government sources, with the launch of this project, all telecom operators in the country will be able to provide high speed mobile and broadband services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands using optical fiber cable.
