Gist
The Swallow is a summer bird.He chirps for days together in our chimney when the weather is fine.

Gist
Our guest,the Swallow flies away in one cold wintry day like our gay young friend.
Stanza: 3
Gist
The Sparrow does not leave us even in winter.Just like a true friend a sparrow always stays with us,be it summer or winter.
Stanza: 4
Gist
The poet wants the bird that will sing even in frost and snow.

ii) Many young friends follow the behaviour of the (c) Swallow.
iii) The Sparrow accompanies the poet in times of (a) snow and frost.
iv) The poet wants a friend who will be like (b) sparrow.

(a) The Swallow chirps for weeks together when the weather is fine and warm.
(b) In a cold day the Swallow will fly away.
(c) Even when old friends are separated ,their hearts will never narrow.
(d) The poet wishes for a bird that will sing in frost ,love in sorrow.

i) Why do you think the Swallow leaves the poet during the winter season ?
Ans. The Swallow is a summer bird.So during winter he goes away in search of a warm place.

A true friend of the poet greeted him the next day The poet had mischance

(a) As the Swallow is a summer bird,it stays in the chimney chirping for weeks together.
(b) A young friend comes to his friend when his friend is in happiness and prosperity but leaves in bad time.So also Swallow comes in the days of happiness but in the wintry days he flies away.
(c) The poet wants a friend who will love him in the time of sorrow like the sparrow.
(d) The poet likes the Sparrow.The Sparrow remains closer to man in his sorrow and misfortune bit the swallow does not.
