Bengali Meaning বঙ্গানুবাদ :

             পশুটি তাকে মাত্রাতিরিক্ত পোশাক খাদ্য দিত এবং দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে তার সঙ্গে আলাপচারিতায় মগ্ন থাকতো। প্রতিরাতে পশুটি বিবাহের ব্যাপারে জিজ্ঞাসা করত আর প্রতিবারেই সে প্রত্যাখ্যাত হত। প্রতিবার প্রত্যাখ্যাত হওয়ার পর বেল্লে এক সুদর্শন  যুবরাজকে স্বপ্ন দেখতো যে তার কাছে অত্যন্ত বিনয় ভাবে জানতে চাইতো কেন সে পশুটিকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করেই চলছে। প্রতিবারই সে জবাব দিত যে সে একটি পশুকে বিবাহ করতে পারে না কারণ সে কেবলমাত্র বন্ধু হিসেবেই তাকে ভালোবাসে। কিন্তু বেলে কিছুতেই সেই সুদর্শন যুবরাজ আর পশুটির মধ্যে কোন যোগসূত্র খুঁজে বার করতে পারল না। সে আসস্ত হয় যে পশুটি দুর্গের মধ্যে কোথাও না কোথাও ওই স্বপ্নের যুবরাজকে বন্দি করে আটকে রেখেছে। সে তাকে খুঁজতে লাগল এবং অনেক মায়াবী ঘর খুঁজে বের করলো কিন্তু কখনো তার সেই স্বপ্নের যুবরাজকে দেখতে পেল না।

             বেশ কয়েক মাস ধরে বেল্লে পশুটির রাজপ্রাসাদে বিলাসবহুল ভাবে জীবন-যাপন কাটাতে লাগলো আর অদৃশ্য ভৃত্যরা তার প্রয়োজন এর সাহায্যে এগিয়ে আসতো এবং অন্তহীন প্রাচুর্যতার মনোরঞ্জন করত আর অন্তহীনভাবে সুন্দর পোশাক সরবরাহ করতো। ঘটনাক্রমে বেল্লে গৃহ কাতর হয়ে পড়ল এবং তার পরিবারের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে যাবার জন্য পশুটিকে অনুরোধ করল। পশুটি বলল যে সে যেতে দেবে ঠিকই কিন্তু ঠিক এক সপ্তাহের মধ্যে তাকে আবার এই রাজপ্রাসাদে ফিরে আসতে হবে। বেলে এতে রাজী হয়ে গেল এবং একটি মায়াবী আয়না আর একটি আংটি হাতে নিয়ে সে বাড়ির উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা হলো। আয়না তাকে দেখিয়ে দেবে তার অবর্তমানে পশুটির দুর্গে কি ঘটতে চলেছে আর আংটিটা তাকে তৎক্ষনাৎ ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে যদি বেল্লে সেই আংটিটা কে তার আঙ্গুলের চারপাশে তিনবার ঘুরিয়ে নেয়।

 

            তার বড় বোনেরা চমৎকার পোশাক ও লাবণ্য দেখে চমকে উঠলো এবং তার দুর্গে সুখের জীবন তাদেরকে ঈর্ষাকাতর করে তুলল। পশুটির কাছে কোন একটি নির্দিষ্ট দিনে তার ফিরে যাবার কথা শুনে তার বড় বোনেরা ঠিক করল আরো একদিন বেশি থাকার জন্য বেল্লা কে অনুরোধ করবে। এমনকি তারা চোখে পেঁয়াজের ঝাঁজ দিয়ে দেখাতে চাইল যে তাদের চোখের জল চলে এসেছে। গোপনে তারা আশা করছিল যে বেলের প্রতিশ্রুতি ভঙ্গ হলে পশুটি তার উপর রেগে যাবে এবং তাকে জ্যান্ত মেরে ফেলবে। বেলের হৃদয় তার বোনেদের ভালোবাসার অভিনয়ে আলোড়িত হয়ে গেল এবং সে থেকে যেতে রাজি হল।

 

       পশুটিকে দেওয়া প্রতিশ্রুতি ভেঙে ফেলার জন্য বেল্লের নিজের কাছে অপরাধী মনে হতে লাগল এবং সে আয়না ব্যবহার করে দেখতে লাগলো যে তার অবর্তমানে দুর্গে কি ঘটনা ঘটছে। বেলে প্রচন্ড ভয় পেয়ে গেল এটা দেখে যে পশুটি প্রায় অর্ধমৃত অবস্থায় পড়ে রয়েছে তার সেই প্রিয় গোলাপ ফুলের বাগানের কাছে যে গোলাপ ফুলের বাগান থেকে বেলের বাবা একটি গোলাপ ফুল চুরি করেছিল তারা জন্য। বেলে তৎক্ষণাৎ আংটি টিকে ব্যবহার করল এবং পশুটির কাছে দুর্গে ফিরে এলো।

 

          দুর্গা ফিরে আসার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বেলে দেখতে পেল যে পশুটি প্রায় মৃত। বেলে পশুটিকে ধরে কাঁদতে লাগলো এটা বলে যে সে তাকে কত ভালোবাসতো। যেইমাত্র বেলের চোখের জল পশুটিকে স্পর্শ করল সেই পশুটি তৎক্ষণাৎ একজন সুদর্শন রাজপুত্রের পরিণত হল। সেই যুবরাজ বেল্লেকে কে বলল যে অনেকদিন আগে এক পরী তাকে অভিশাপ দিয়ে এই কুৎসিত চেহারার পশুতে পরিণত করেছিল যখন সেই যুবরাজ সেই পরীকে বৃষ্টির মধ্যে তার রাজপ্রাসাদে ঢুকতে বারণ করেছিল এবং তার এই কুৎসিত চেহারা সত্ত্বেও যদি তোকে কেউ সত্যি কারের ভালবাসে তখনই অভিশাপটি দূর হবে। তারপর সেই যুবরাজ বেলেকে বিবাহ করল এবং তারা তারপর থেকে সুখে শান্তিতে জীবন যাপন করতে লাগলো।

Activity  - 6

 

Answer the following questions.

 

1)The beast decided to kill the merchant because the merchant was trying to take away his most precious possession after accepting his hospitality.

 

2)In his Castle the beast gave her love is clothing and food. She was waited on hand and foot by invisible servants. She had no end of riches to amuse her. In this way the beast looked after Belle in his Castle.

 

3) Belle failed to find the Prince of our dreams in the Castle because the Prince had no real existence. Belle only dreamt of the Prince and thought that the Prince was held captive somewhere in the Castle.

 

4)The two things Belle carried to her father’s house were an enchanted mirror and a ring . The mirror would allow her to see what was going on back at the Beast’s Castle and the ring would allow her to return to the castle in an instant when turned three times around her finger.

5) A handsome Prince became an ugly beast as long ago a fairy turned him into a hideous beast after he refused to let her in from the rain.
