Let's Start: 

 

Akbar was one of the greatest emperors of India. He belonged to the Mughal dynasty. He had in his court the “Nine Gems", his nine advisors. One of these gems was Birbal, known for his wit and wisdom. 

আকবর ছিলেন ভারতের অন্যতম সেরা সম্রাট। তিনি মুঘল রাজবংশের অন্তর্ভূক্ত ছিলেন। তাঁর দরবারে তাঁর নয় জন উপদেষ্টা “নব রত্ন” ছিলেন।এই রত্নগুলির মধ্যে একজন ছিলেন বীরবল, যিনি তাঁর বুদ্ধি এবং প্রজ্ঞার জন্য সুপরিচিত ছিল।

The king of Kings, Emperor Akbar, who ruled over India was a great lover of arts, sciences, literature and music.

রাজাদের রাজা আকবর, সম্রাট আকবর, যিনি ভারতে শাসন করেছিলেন তিনি ছিলেন শিল্প, বিজ্ঞান, সাহিত্য এবং সংগীতের এক মহান প্রেমিক।

 

One day, on a fine morning, he was walking in his vast garden.

একদিন, সুন্দর সকালে, তিনি তাঁর বিশাল বাগানে হাঁটছিলেন।

 

His garden was lined with trees that produced the tastiest and juiciest fruits in the whole kingdom.

তাঁর বাগানটিতে ছিল সারি সারি গাছ যেগুলি পুরো রাজ্যে সবচেয়ে সুস্বাদু এবং রসালো ফল উত্‍পাদন করত।

 

There were flowers of all shapes and sizes in his garden.

তার বাগানে সব আকার এবং আকৃতির ফুল ছিল।

 

He had his most trusted and favourite minister Birbal with him.

তাঁর সাথে তাঁর সবচেয়ে বিশ্বস্ত ও প্রিয় মন্ত্রী বীরবল ছিলেন।

 

But the great Emperor Akbar did not have peace of mind, the quality without which no one, not even the king of kings, can appreciate beauty. 

তবে মহান সম্রাট আকবরের মানসিক প্রশান্তি ছিল না, যে গুণটি ছাড়া কেউ, এমনকি রাজাদের রাজাও, সৌন্দর্যের প্রশংসা করতে পারে না।

 

Wise Birbal, noticing this, asked Akbar, 'O great and powerful King, what is troubling you? You do not seem to be your usual self, for my king never fails to enjoy the beauty of the greatest kingdom this earth has ever seen!’ 

বুদ্ধিমান বীরবল, এটি দেখে আকবরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, 'হে মহান ও শক্তিশালী রাজা, কি আপনাকে যন্ত্রণা দিচ্ছে? আপনি নিজের স্বাভাবিক অবস্থায়  বলে মনে হয় না, কারণ আমার রাজা এই পৃথিবীর দেখা সবচেয়ে বড় রাজ্যের সৌন্দর্য উপভোগ করতে কখনও ব্যর্থ হয় না! ’

 

Akbar replied, 'Birbal, my dearest friend, you are right. There is indeed a riddle that has been troubling me. An idle thought, which came to me in passing, is now my cause of worry. I am troubled because I cannot find an answer to a simple question- what is the fastest thing on this planet?' 

আকবর উত্তর দিলেন, 'বীরবল, আমার সবচেয়ে প্রিয় বন্ধু, তুমি ঠিক বলেছ। সত্যিই একটি ধাঁধা আমাকে বিরক্ত করছে। একটি অলস ভাবনা, যা আমার কাছে এসেছিল, এখন এটি আমার চিন্তার কারণ। আমি সমস্যায় পড়েছি কারণ আমি একটি সাধারণ প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজে পাচ্ছি না - এই গ্রহের সবচেয়ে দ্রুততম জিনিসটি কী? '

 

Birbal said, 'Is that all, your Majesty? Call your courtiers together. Let us see if one of them can answer. If not, then I am certain I can tell you of the fastest thing on the planet.’

বীরবল বললেন, 'মহাশয়, এটাই সব কি? আপনার পারিষদ্ দের এক সাথে ডেকে নিন। তাদের মধ্যে কেউ উত্তর দিতে পারে কিনা তা আমরা দেখি। যদি তা না হয় তবে আমি নিশ্চিত আমি গ্রহের দ্রুততম জিনিসটির কথা বলতে পারি ’’

 

At the King's court, many heard the question that was troubling Akbar.

রাজার দরবারে অনেকে আকবরকে কষ্ট দিচ্ছিল এমন প্রশ্ন শুনেছিল।

 

Most were puzzled.

বেশিরভাগ বিস্মিত হয়েছিল।

 

Some said, 'bullock carts’, others said, 'horses'. But Birbal just smiled at them.

কেউ কেউ বলেছিল, 'বলদের গাড়ি', আবার কেউ কেউ বলেছিল, 'ঘোড়া'। কিন্তু বীরবল কেবল তাদের দেখে হাসলেন।

 

After everyone had failed to satisfy Emperor Akbar, Birbal offered to answer his question.  

সবাই সম্রাট আকবরকে সন্তুষ্ট করতে ব্যর্থ হওয়ার পরে, বীরবল তার প্রশ্নের উত্তর দেওয়ার প্রস্তাব দিলেন।

 

He said, 'Your Majesty, it is the human mind!'

তিনি বললেন, 'মহাশয়, এটা হাল মানুষের মন!'

To prove it, he said, 'Let the people of our kingdom present a problem to me. I shall show you how fast I can solve it using the powers of my mind alone.' 

এটি প্রমাণ করার জন্য, তিনি বলেছিলেন, 'আমাদের রাজ্যের লোকেরা আমার কাছে একটি সমস্যা উপস্থিত করুক। আমি একাই আমার মনের শক্তি ব্যবহার করে এটি কত দ্রুত সমাধান করতে পারি তা আমি আপনাকে দেখাব ''

 

A man came forward from the audience.  

একজন লোক শ্রোতাদের কাছ থেকে এগিয়ে এসেছিল।

 

He claimed that his neighbour had sold him his well.

সে দাবি করেছিলেন যে তার প্রতিবেশী তাকে কূপ বিক্রি করেছে।

 

Now, when he wanted to draw water from the well, his neighbour wanted to charge him money for it.

এখন, যখন সে কূপ থেকে জল টানতে চেয়েছিল, তখন তার প্রতিবেশী তার জন্য অর্থ ধার্য করছিল।

 

After being summoned to the court, his neighbour argued that he had just sold him the well, not the water in it. 

আদালতে তলব করার পরে, তার প্রতিবেশী যুক্তি দিয়েছিল যে সে কেবল তাকে কূপ বিক্রি করেছে, এতে থাকা জল নয়।

Akbar listened to this argument carefully and asked Birbal to settle the dispute.

আকবর এই যুক্তি মনোযোগ দিয়ে শোনেন এবং বীরবলকে বিরোধ নিষ্পত্তি করতে বলেন।

 

Birbal smiled at the man and said, 'I think the solution is rather simple. It is your well now, your neighbour should be paying you rent for keeping water in your well. If he wants you to pay for his water, he must pay for using your well!’

বীরবল লোকটির দিকে তাকিয়ে বললেন, 'আমি মনে করি সমাধানটি বরং সহজ। এটি এখন তোমার কূপ, তোমার প্রতিবেশীরই তোমার কূপে জল রাখার জন্য তোমাকে ভাড়া প্রদান করা উচিত। যদি সে চায় যে তুমি তার জলের মূল্য দিবে, তবে অবশ্যই আপনার কূপ ব্যবহারের জন্য তাকে অর্থ দিতে হবে!’

 

The neighbour realised that he was outwitted and withdrew his claim immediately. 

প্রতিবেশী বুঝতে পেরেছিল যে সে হেরে গিয়েছে এবং সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তার দাবি প্রত্যাহার করে নিয়েছিল।

 

All around, people were amazed at the wisdom of Birbal and the speed of the human mind that has the ability to solve a problem instantly.

চারদিকে, মানুষ বীরবলের জ্ঞান এবং মানুষের মনের গতিতে অবাক হয়েছিল যেটি তাত্ক্ষণিকভাবে কোনও সমস্যার সমাধান করার ক্ষমতা রাখে।

 

Truly, there was nothing faster than it. 

সত্যই, এর চেয়ে দ্রুত আর কিছুই ছিল না।
