1st part of the Story,
A tiger was caught in a storm.
একটি বাঘ ঝড়ের কবলে পড়েছিল।
He had wandered near the village, looking for something to eat.
সে গ্রামের কাছে ঘুরে বেড়াত, কিছু খাবারের খোঁজে।
On the outskirts of that village lived an ill-tempered old woman.
সেই গ্রামের উপকণ্ঠে এক অসুস্থ বৃদ্ধা মহিলা থাকতেন।
The tiger huddled in shelter close to the wall of the woman's hut.
বাঘটি মহিলার কুঁড়েঘরের প্রাচীরের কাছে আশ্রয়ে আটকে ছিল।
The old woman was feeling very ill-tempered that night.
বৃদ্ধা মহিলাটি সেদিন খুব অসুস্থ বোধ করছিলেন।
The rainwater was leaking through the roof.
ছাদ দিয়ে বৃষ্টির জল গলে পড়ছিল।
"There is no escape from this drip-drip", she muttered angrily, pushing her bed around the room to keep it dry.
"এই ড্রিপ-ড্রিপ থেকে রেহাই পাওয়া যায় না", তিনি ক্রোধে বিড়বিড় করছিলেন, শুকনো রাখার জন্য ঘরের চারপাশে তার বিছানাটি ঠেলাঠেলি করতে করতে।
She shoved the bed and a tin trunk against a wall.
তিনি বিছানা এবং একটি দেয়ালের বিরুদ্ধে একটি টিনের ট্রাঙ্ক সরিয়ে দিলেন।
The wall shook.

"This drip-drip will be the death of me! “she shouted.

The tiger on the opposite side of the wall felt the wall shake and was frightened.

"The drip-drip must be a very dreadful creature," he thought.
"ড্রিপ-ড্রিপ অবশ্যই একটি খুব ভয়ঙ্কর প্রাণী হবে," সে ভেবেছিল।
Meanwhile, Bholenath, the potter, was out in the night, looking for his donkey in the storm.
এদিকে ভোলানাথ, কুমোর, রাতে বাইরে বেরিয়েছিল, ঝড়ের মধ্যে তার গাধাটির সন্ধান করছিল।
Suddenly he saw an animal huddled in the dark against the wall of the woman's hut.
হঠাৎ সে দেখতে পেল যে অন্ধকারে একটি প্রাণী মহিলার কুঁড়েঘরের দেয়ালের বিপরীতে গুটিসুটি হয়ে বসে আছে।।

2nd part of the Story:
"There is my donkey!"Bholenath shouted, and running to the tiger, grabbed it.
"ঐ তো আমার গাধা!" ভোলেনাথ চিৎকার করে বাঘের কাছে ছুটে এসে জড়িয়ে ধরল।
He pulled the tiger's ears.
সে বাঘের কান ধরে টানল।
"Move, you lazy donkey, or I will give you a hard time!"
"সরে যাও, তুমি অলস গাধা, অথবা আমি তোমাকে একটি কঠিন শাস্তি দেব!"
The tiger was really frightened.
বাঘটি সত্যিই ভীত হয়ে গেল।
"This must be the terrible drip-drip!" He thought.
"এটি অবশ্যই ভয়ঙ্কর ড্রিপ-ড্রিপ!" সে ভেবেছিলো.
Bholenath dragged the tiger home and kept him tied by a sturdy rope to a tree near his hut.
ভোলেনাথ বাঘটাকে বাড়িতে টেনে নিয়ে গিয়েছিল এবং তাকে একটি শক্ত দড়ি দিয়ে বেঁধে রেখেছিল তার কুঁড়েঘরের কাছে একটি গাছে।
In the morning, Bholenath's wife discovered the tiger tied to the tree and screamed in fear.
সকালে ভোলেনাথের স্ত্রী গাছটিতে বাঁধা বাঘটি আবিষ্কার করেছিল এবং ভয়ে চিৎকার করেছিল।
Hearing her, the neighbours came running out of their huts.
তার চিত্কার শুনে প্রতিবেশীরা তাদের কুঁড়েঘর গুলি থেকে ছুটে এসেছিল।
Bholenath was sleeping.
ভোলেনাথ ঘুমিয়ে ছিলেন।
He came out, too.
তিনিও বাইরে বেরিয়ে এসেছিলেন।
The people were all mystified.
লোকেরা সবাই হতভম্ব হয়ে গিয়েছিল।
"Who tied this tiger to the tree?" They asked.
"এই বাঘটাকে কে গাছের সাথে বেঁধেছে?" তারা জিজ্ঞাসা করেছিল।
A neighbour said, "I think Bholenath can tell us. I saw him last night dragging an animal through the storm."
এক প্রতিবেশী বলেছিল, "আমি মনে করি ভোলেনাথ আমাদের বলতে পারে। গত রাতে আমি তাকে ঝড়ের মধ্যে দিয়ে একটি প্রাণীকে টেনে নিয়ে যেতে দেখেছি।"
Bholenath was too frightened to admit his mistake.
ভোলেনাথ নিজের ভুল স্বীকার করতে খুব ভয় পেয়েছিল।
Everyone looked questioningly at Bholenath.
সকলেই ভোলানাথের দিকে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধভাবে তাকালেন।
In the meantime, the tiger, disturbed and confused by all the people, had chewed through the rope.
এরই মধ্যে, বাঘটি, সমস্ত লোকের দ্বারা বিচলিত এবং বিভ্রান্ত হয়ে দড়িটি চিবিয়েছিল।
It ran away to the jungle.
এটি দৌড়ে জঙ্গলে চলে গেল।
The villagers were relieved.
গ্রামবাসীরা স্বস্তি পেয়েছিল।
Bholenath now saw an opportunity to brag.
ভোলেনাথ এখন বড়াই করার একটা সুযোগ দেখেছিল।
"It is I who captured the tiger last night. I even pulled its ears,"
"আমিই গতকাল রাতে বাঘটিকে ধরেছিলাম। আমি এমনকি এর কানও টেনেছিলাম,"
Bholenath announced proudly.
ভোলানাথ গর্ব করে ঘোষণা করলেন।
Everyone marvelled at his bravery.
প্রত্যেকে তাঁর সাহসিকতায় আশ্চর্য হয়ে গেল।
Soon the news of Bholenath's bravery reached the king.
শীঘ্রই ভোলেনাথের বীরত্বের খবর রাজার কাছে পৌঁছে গেল।
The king was highly impressed.
রাজা অত্যন্ত মুগ্ধ হয়েছিলেন।
He made Bholenath the Commander-in-chief of the king's army.
তিনি ভোলেনাথকে রাজার সৈন বাহিনীর সর্বাধিনায়ক করলেন।
Bholenath and his wife were given a huge house to live in.
ভোলেনাথ এবং তাঁর স্ত্রীকে থাকার জন্য একটি বিশাল বাড়ি দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

3rd part of the Story:
A few months after that evening, news came that a neighbouring king has declared war.
সেই সন্ধ্যার কয়েক মাস পরে, খবর এল যে প্রতিবেশী রাজা যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে।
Bholenath and his king gathered at the royal court.
ভোলেনাথ ও তাঁর রাজা রাজদরবারে জড়ো হয়েছিলেন।
The king told Bholenath, "You are the Commander-in-chief of my army.
রাজা ভোলেনাথকে বলেছিলেন, "আপনি আমার সেনাবাহিনীর সর্বাধিনায়ক।
I entrust you with the duty of protecting my state."
আমি আপনাকে আমার রাষ্ট্র রক্ষার দায়িত্ব অর্পণ করি। "
Bholenath came back home in utter despair.
ভোলেনাথ একেবারে হতাশায় ঘরে ফিরে এলেন।
"I don't even know how to ride a horse", he told his wife helplessly, "How will I defend our borders against eight thousand enemy soldiers?"
"আমি ঘোড়া চালাতেও জানি না", তিনি তার স্ত্রীকে অসহায় হয়ে বলেছিলেন, "আমি কীভাবে আট হাজার শত্রু সৈন্যের বিরুদ্ধে আমাদের সীমান্ত রক্ষা করব?"
"Don't worry," his wife said, "I'll tie you to the horse."
"চিন্তা করবে না," তার স্ত্রী বললেন, "আমি তোমাকে ঘোড়ার সাথে বেঁধে দিব।"
In the morning, the king sent Bholenath a magnificent stallion.
সকালে রাজা ভোলেনাথকে একটি দুর্দান্ত পুরুষ ঘোড়া প্রেরণ করলেন।
Bholenath got up glumly on the horse and his wife securely tied him to it with a rope.
ভোলেনাথ ঘোড়ায় চটপট উঠলেন এবং তাঁর স্ত্রী নিরাপদে তাকে দড়ির সাথে বেঁধে ফেললেন।
The horse did not like the feel of the tight ropes.
ঘোড়াটি শক্ত দড়িগুলির অনুভূতি পছন্দ করে নি।
It reared suddenly and galloped off wildly.
এটি হঠাৎ পিছিয়ে গেল এবং বন্যভাবে দ্রুততার সঙ্গে এগিয়ে গেল।
Bholenath hung desperately to its mane.
ভোলেনাথ তার কেশর ধারে মরিয়া ভাবে ঝুলতে লাগল।
Realising that the horse was headed straight for the enemy camp, Bholenath shouted in fear.
ঘোড়াটি সরাসরি শত্রু শিবিরের দিকে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে বুঝতে পেরে ভোলেনাথ ভয়ে চিৎকার করলেন।
The horse could not be stopped.
ঘোড়া টাকে থামানো গেল না।
Bholenath noticed a large tree with its branches hanging over the road.
ভোলেনাথ লক্ষ্য করলেন একটি বড় গাছ যার ডালগুলি রাস্তায় ঝুলছে।
